A Canadian citizen
At least 18 years old
A resident in the City of Mississauga; or
A non-resident of Mississauga and you or your spouse owns or rents property in the City
Are serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
Are a corporation
Are acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity
Were convicted of the corrupt practice described in Municipal Elections Act, 1996, less than five years ago

If you are interested in running for Mayor or Ward 5 Councillor, you must complete the following steps to become a registered candidate.
You can download the complete nomination package or pick up hard copies from the Office of the City Clerk. To pick up hard copies, call the Elections Office at 905-615-3389.
Once you have completed your nomination package, you must file it with an Election Official. To do this, you must book an in-person appointment for the Election Official to validate your identification documents and ensure your nomination package is complete and acceptable.
After the Election Official has validated your ID and nomination package at your appointment, you will need to pay the applicable nomination fee:
You can pay the fee with a credit card, debit card, certified cheque or bank draft. Cash is not accepted.
When your nomination process is complete, you will receive a receipt from an Election Official confirming your nomination package and fees have been processed.
