Nominations for Municipal Election Candidates Open Today

The nomination period opens today for the offices of Mayor, Ward/Regional Councillor and School Board Trustee for the 2022 Municipal Election. Nomination forms will be accepted until Friday, August 19, 2022 at 2 p.m.

Forms are available online or you can book an appointment to pick them up from the Office of the City Clerk by visiting mississaugavotes.ca/for-candidates/become-a-candidate/ or by calling 905-615-3389.

To qualify to run for municipal council (Mayor or Ward/Regional Councillor), a candidate must meet all of the following conditions:

• be a Canadian citizen
• be at least 18 years old
• be a resident of the City of Mississauga or the owner or tenant of property in Mississauga or the spouse of an owner or tenant of property in the city
• not be prohibited under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 or otherwise by law

To qualify to run for School Board Trustee a candidate must meet all of the following conditions:

• be a Canadian citizen
• be at least 18 years old
• be a resident in the area of jurisdiction of the board to which the nomination applies
• not be prohibited under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 or otherwise by law
• meet any other qualifications to vote for the school board (for example – being a Roman Catholic, or hold French language rights)

When ready, candidates have two options to file their nomination forms: electronically or in-person. Both options require candidates to:

• Complete the nomination package.
• Book an appointment to meet with an Election Official either virtually or in-person and file their complete nomination package (candidates can also call 905-615-3389).
• Pay the nomination fee ($200 for Mayor, $100 for Ward/Regional Councillors and $100 for School Board Trustee).
